How to get to Drummond Island |
Driving:
From the south, cross the Mackinac Bridge and go north on I-75 for about 15 miles, take M-134 East about 40 miles to the village of DeTour. The ferry is well marked and takes you and your vehicle to the island. Trailers and boats on trailers fit just fine on the ferry. Map
Airport Service:
Airplanes can land at the Drummond Island Airport. There is a 4,000 foot lighted runway with instrument approach, call the manager at (906) 493-5411 for more information.
How to get around the island:
There are numerous ways to see the Island. Car travel affords the visitor access to many parts of the Island and, of course, hiking the many Island trails affords a further view of the local scenery. Biking is a very popular way to see the island with both paved and unimproved roads to explore. Boats, which can be brought onto the island or rented from some of the resorts and marinas, give a totally different point of view of the Island.
In winter, over 100 miles of groomed snowmobile trails afford a look at the Island not available in the summer by car or boat. Snowmobile tours across the ice to Canada are available. Routes across the ice are marked by the Drummond Island Snowmobile Club and several Canadian snowmobile clubs. Cross country ski trails are groomed in some areas.
